A young lady on X has opened up about the emotional pain she’s facing at home after her parents found out her cousin is getting married.
According to her, ever since her parents heard that the cousin who is four years older — is set to tie the knot, the atmosphere in her home has changed. She revealed that she tried to keep her hurt inside but eventually broke down in tears.
She wrote:
“Ever since my parents heard that my cousin (4 years older than me) will be getting married, it’s been a lot of work for me. I have been trying to keep my hurt but today, I just couldn’t. I broke down in tears because I was so hurt, I don’t know how to explain it but it’s painful.”
The lady further explained that she was sad because she had spent so much time at home and did not have the option of leaving yet, adding that she lived her life pleasing her parents instead of choosing herself.
Many users reacted to her post, with one telling her:
“Are you sad because you wish you were married or because your parents are being hurtful?”
Another advised her to put herself first and consider leaving home when she can afford it, while one user shared how she copes with similar questions:
“When anybody asks me why I’m not married I gaslight them and say it’s their fault. If they had prayed well for me, I would have been married. Let’s all be upset.”
