‘Lady Jumps Into Lagos Lagoon’ On Thursday, an unidentified middle-aged lady reportedly jumped into Lagos Lagoon from the Third Mainland Bridge in an apparent suicide attempt. We believe the incident occurred at 10 a.m.
At the time of reporting this story, Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Agency, LASEMA, verified the event and said rescue crews were still looking for the body.
Lady Jumps Into Lagos Lagoon
“Upon the arrival of the LRT at the scene, an investigation revealed that a lady in her late 30s dived into the Lagos Lagoon,” Oke-Osayintolu said.
“Further inquiry found that the lady exited a commercial cab on the bridge and plummeted into the lagoon.”
“The taxi driver stated that she was having an angry argument with her fiancé on her phone before alighting and plunging into the lagoon.”
“The LRT, men from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASWA, and officials from the Department of State Service, DSS, are still looking for the victim.”
Oke-Osanyintolu, on the other hand, bemoaned the recent wave of suicides, notably on the Third Mainland Bridge.
“Every 40 seconds, someone thinks about committing suicide and eventually does,” he said.
It is instructive that the 11.8-kilometer-long bridge across the lagoon has seen a number of suicides in the last four months.
Since its completion in 1990, the bridge has acted as the primary link from the mainland to Lagos Island, Victoria Island, Lekki, Ajah, and Epe, where thousands of citizens commute daily.

In October Ngozi Blessing Released Videos Of Man Jumping Into The Lagoon
Remember that in October, an unidentified man was seen in a viral video diving into the Lagoon after being suspected of stealing.
Ngozi Blessing, a Facebook user, released videos of the man addressing some onlookers and jumping into the Lagoon.
Blessing claimed in the post that the man committed himself because he was falsely accused of stealing a large sum of money, which he denied knowing about.
Blessing stated in a text accompanying the video, “He was saying that they framed him; that he stole a significant amount of money, which he did not.”
“And they said they’d give him 24 hours to reimburse the money, but he didn’t steal.”
“It’s difficult for him to eat once a day, so where would he obtain that type of money in 24 hours?”
