A lady identified as Pearl has accused Community Development Committee (CDC) officials in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, of demanding ₦20,000 before allowing her to pump floodwater from her compound into a gutter.
According to her, her house was affected by the recent flooding in Port Harcourt, prompting her landlady to purchase a water pump to drain the water.
However, she claimed that some men from the community stopped them from pumping the water and insisted they pay ₦20,000 before continuing.
Pearl, who said the incident happened on a street near Nkpolu Junction, questioned whether the government approved of such demands and called on the relevant authorities to intervene.
