Knife-wielding intruder breaks into Gombe varsity female hostel and attacks final year student

A knife-wielding intruder broke into a female hostel in the Gombe State University and attacked a final year student who was preparing for her project defense.

 

 

It was gathered that the  man got into the hostel through an open window in the early hours of Monday, January 19, 2026, held the student by the neck and attempted to cut her throat with a sharp knife.

 

 

In an attempt to defend herself from the attack, the student sustained a deep cut on her hands. 

 

 

The Public Relations Officer of the institution, H.N Ligari, who confirmed the incident in a statement said the injured victim has since received medical attention and is now stable.

 

“This is to inform the University Community and the general public that an unfortunate incident occurred in the early hours of today at the Female Hostel. A final-year student, who was preparing for her project defense, was attacked by an intruder. The incident occurred while students are on break,” the statement read. 

 

“The University Security responded to the situation, and immediate action was taken to ensure the safety of the student and others. 

 

“The University Management, including the Vice-Chancellor, visited the site to assess the situation firsthand.

 

“The student sustained a deep cut on her hands while attempting to defend herself from the attack. She has since received medical attention and is now stable.

 

The University reassures all students, staff, and the public that measures are being strengthened to ensure the safety and security of everyone on campus.

 

“The institution remains committed to providing a safe learning and living environment for all its students. Thank you.”
