Jayveon Burley is accused of murder and endangering children. If convicted of the minor charge of endangering a child, he may serve up to a year in prison.

An individual on probation is required to regularly check in with a probation officer and complete other actions, such as going to family counseling and refraining from other unlawful behavior.

Typically, probation lasts for at least a year. If the probationary requirements are not followed, the court may impose a jail or prison sentence.

An adult must serve a minimum of 15 to 30 years in prison, depending on the specifics of the offense. For offenders under the age of 18, the starting point is 12 years.

It is rare, but some criminals receive life sentences, meaning they will spend the remainder of their days in jail. The laws that allow for this have been established by Parliament.
