The Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Dr. Christianah Adeyeye, has enlisted the dangers the consumption of alcohol has done to Nigerians.  In a media chat held recently, Adeyeye who has championed the ban on the sale of sachet alcohol, saidIt increases risk of depression, anxiety, low self esteem..Alcohol is an addictive substance. Youths who begin drinking before age 15 in our study are 41% likely to be dependent on alcohol and this study also shows that they graduate to start taking cocaine and other narcotic. They become violent. Alcohol is a major factor in youth suic!de, homicide and motor vehicle crashes or accidents. Alcohol consumption is also linked to unprotected sexual activities, unwanted pregnancies and STIs.
