Immigration warns of temporary passport system disruptions for maintenance

The Nigeria Immigration Service NIS has announced that its passport application platform will be temporarily disrupted due to scheduled system maintenance.

The warning was issued on Friday, December 12, in a statement signed by the Service’s Public Relations Officer, A S Akinlabi, who said the maintenance exercise will run from Friday, December 12, through Sunday, December 14.

According to the statement, applicants may encounter interruptions while accessing passport related services during the maintenance period.

“During this period, users will experience temporary service interruptions, slow response times, or limited access to selected NIS Passport Services,” the statement said.

The Service appealed to the public for patience, explaining that the work is necessary to improve the efficiency and security of its digital systems.

“The Service kindly requests the public’s patience and understanding, as this maintenance is essential to sustaining a reliable, secure, and efficient digital passport ecosystem,” the statement added.

It further assured applicants that efforts are being made to restore full functionality as quickly as possible. “Our technical teams are working round-the-clock to ensure full-service restoration within the stated timeframe,” Akinlabi said.

He advised members of the public who require assistance or have inquiries during the maintenance window to reach out to the NIS support team through its official social media platforms or contact centre lines.

The announcement comes only days after the Immigration Service introduced temporary complaint response channels on social media following the shutdown of its former support accounts.

The NIS said the alternative platforms were created to ensure continued engagement with applicants experiencing challenges related to passport and visa processing.

Affected applicants were directed to submit their complaints through the temporary X handles @InquireAtNaija, @nigimmigration, and @InquireAtNaija_, as well as via the Service’s Instagram page.
