A Nigerian doctor, Zainab Suleiman, has revealed that she got married to her mentor and platonic friend six weeks after he made his intentions known to her.
Zainab, who shared her story in a Facebook post on Monday, May 1, 2025, said prior to his marriage proposal, their friendship was one built on spirituality, trust, mutual support and without romantic intent.
“I got married to my mentor and friend. When life is tough, I talk to him about everything, and he offers me good advice, guidance, and support. Sometimes, he sends prayers,” she wrote.
Since 2022, I’ve shared my thoughts with him, including my crazy relationships. We’ve built trust over the years without any romantic or inappropriate conversations. I wasn’t even looking at him romantically, despite having many suitors and admirers.
To cut the story short, he made his intentions known, and within six weeks, we got married. Marriage came to me when I least expected it. I found marriage in a place I wasn’t even dreaming of. My eyes were somewhere else. But, as they say, when Allah’s time comes, He makes all things beautiful. A man who is serious about you will make things halal for you. A man who is sure about you will make love easy for you. Alhamdulillah, I got what I always prayed and wished for – a man of peace, comfort, and security. Which of Allah’s favors will I deny?
My wedding Fatiha was done in peace and in my parlor, just as I had always wished and wanted – no crowd, just few family, and a few close ones. No noise, nothing extravagant.
It was simple, according to Islamic culture. It was blessed with the presence of Sheikh Gumi and family. My mom was happy, and I’m happy too. Alhamdulillah, I waited, and it was worth it. So, to everyone reading this, good marriages still exist, and you will marry right.
