A man identified as Sule Gurmu k!lled his wife, Umaima Maidawa in Bayawa town, Augie Local Government Area of Kebbi State,
The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday morning, January 14, 2026 following a disagreement between the couple.
The suspect was arrested in Katami town in Sokoto State where he had fled after committing the dastardly act.
The Executive Chairman of Augie Local Government Area, Hon. Yahaya Muhammad Augie, who confirmed the incident and arrest in a statement, condemned the act of domestic violence.
Upon receiving the report, Hon. Augie promptly moved to Bayawa town alongside security personnel to assess the situation and ensure immediate response.
The Chairman, in collaboration with officers of the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies, supervised the evacuation of the deceased to the General Hospital, Argungu, for proper medical examination and investigation in line with due process.
Hon. Augie personally accompanied the security team to the hospital, demonstrating leadership, concern, and commitment to justice and the rule of law.
In a swift move, the Chairman directed security agencies to immediately arrest the suspect and ensure that he is brought to justice without delay.
Following the directive, officers of the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) launched a coordinated manhunt for the suspect.
The operation later led to the successful arrest of Sule Gurmu at Katami, in Sokoto State.
The Executive Chairman reiterated his administration’s commitment to protecting lives, maintaining law and order, and ensuring that perpetrators of criminal acts face the full weight of the law.
He also called on residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and supportive of security agencies as investigations continue.
Hon. Yahaya Muhammad Augie further urged community members to report all forms of violence and suspicious activities to security authorities promptly, emphasizing that peace, justice, and human dignity must always be upheld.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Augie Local Government commended the Chairman for his prompt intervention, firm stance, and active involvement, describing his actions as a clear demonstration of zero tolerance for crime and violence in the local government area.
