A windstorm has caused significant destruction in Bunkure Local Government Area of Kano State, damaging homes and displacing residents in several villages.
The storm affected the communities of Sakafalle-Jalabi and Zangon Buhari in Kulluwa ward. Residential buildings made of both mud and cement were damaged, and numerous zinc roofing sheets were ripped off by the intense winds. While no fatalities were recorded, the storm resulted in the loss of valuable property, leaving many residents homeless.
Labaran Garba, the information officer for the local government, confirmed the incident and noted that although lives were spared, the scale of destruction was considerable.
The acting district head of Bunkure, Nasiru Umar (Wakilin Hakimi), has formally reported the matter to the Emir of Rano, Alhaji Isa Umar. In response, the Emir directed that a comprehensive report be compiled and submitted to the local government council to enable appropriate intervention. He also urged residents to adopt preventive measures to mitigate the effects of natural disasters in the future.
This incident comes just weeks after a similar windstorm struck Madobi Local Government Area, also in Kano State, where several residents were displaced and public infrastructure, including power lines, was damaged, leaving affected communities without electricity.
