The accused remained at Health Sciences North after making an appearance in court on Wednesday.
The mother of two narrated her ordeal in a GoFundMe account set up to raise money for repatriating her mother’s remains to Nigeria for burial. The campaign has currently raised over $19,000.
Detailing the attack, Lydia, described it as a “tragic and unthinkable incident” that changed their lives forever.
Lydia said she had just returned from work when she met her husband coming out of the house in his work uniform.
She alleged that Lucky then followed her into the house, locked the door and started attacking her with a knife.
She added that she was able to escape from the house while struggling to survive, unaware that Lucky had killed her mother.
“Hi, my name is Lydia, and I am reaching out with a heavy heart to ask for your support during the most devastating time of my life,” she wrote.
“On July 1, 2025, a tragic and unthinkable incident occurred in my home that resulted in the sudden loss of my dear mother, who had come from overseas to visit and support me and my children. What was meant to be a joyful family visit turned into a heartbreaking nightmare that changed our lives forever.
“When I returned from work, I saw my husband coming out of the house in his work uniform, going to work. He immediately turned back and followed me behind, and I opened the door and asked him if he was going to work.
“He answered that “he had resigned from his job”. Which I knew nothing about at that time. Immediately, I entered the house, he followed me behind and locked the door, and then he started attacking me with a knife, trying to kill me by stabbing my stomach, neck, shoulder, hand and head multiple times.
“I was able to escape from the house during the process of struggling to survive, I didn’t see or hear from my Mum, not knowing that he had already stabbed my Mum multiple times.
“My mother was a peaceful woman full of love and care for everyone. Her passing has shaken our entire family, especially my sisters, brother and my father, who are mourning her loss back home and hoping to see her laid to rest where she belongs.
“As a mother of two and a survivor of this traumatic experience, I am doing my best to stay strong for my family; however, the costs involved in repatriating my mother’s body are more than I can manage alone.
“I am humbly asking for your help.
“Any contribution, no matter how small, will go directly toward funeral expenses, transportation, and returning my mother to her homeland. Your kindness and support would mean the world to me and my family during this harrowing time.
“Thank you for reading, sharing, and supporting. May God bless you richly for your generosity and compassion.
“With sincere gratitude;
“Lydia Imie Ogbejiele”
