Gunmen k!ll policeman attached to LG chairman in Delta

A police officer attached to the Chairman of Bomadi local government council of Delta State, Inspector O. O. Ojonogba of PMF 51 has been shot de@d by unidentified gunmen.

 

The officer who was popularly known as “Ade,” was killed in Ughelli, Ughelli North local government area of the State while on duty.

 

At the time of the attack, the chairman was said to have travelled to Asaba on official engagement, leaving behind his children with the late officer.

 

The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, August 25, when the attackers stormed the chairman’s residence.

 

Inspector Ojonogba, who was on duty, was reportedly asleep in his lounge when the assailants shot him in the neck. An eyewitness who confirmed the incident, said;

“At about 3–4 a.m., armed robbers entered the Council Chairman’s compound after breaking through the generator powerhouse while it was on. On the day of the incident, the chairman went with three others of his security, leaving behind the late police officer that was shot and his children only.

Immediately after gaining entrance, they went to the room of the security personnel identified as, Inspr. O. O Ojonogba attached to PMF 51 who was sleeping, and shot him on the neck in his sleep.”

 

The source said the assailants later went through the back of the main house where they destroyed one of the burglary protectors and entered through the dining section before proceeding to the children’s room.

 

While at the children’s room, they demanded their father’s money and jewelry from their mother, firing shots at the PoP ceiling and the wall of the room.

 

“They took all their (children’s) phones, two iPads and a laptop, but they returned back to search for more gadgets and unfortunately they did not find any,” the eyewitness narrated.

 

The armed men reportedly fled the scene afterward, leaving residents in shock after the attack.

 

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Edafe Bright said the Command was on the trails of the criminals.
