Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers k!lled eight personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, attached to the BUA cement factory located in Okpella, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State.

 

The incident happened on Friday, September 5, 2025 when the officers were escorting five Chinese expatriates after a routine patrol at the company’s entrance. 

 

A senior officer of the command in the state, who confirmed the incident on Saturday, said that one expatriate, a Chinese national, was kidnapped while four of his compatriots were rescued from their abductors. 

 

The officer added that four persons were injured and were currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital, adding that an official statement would be released at the command headquarters in Abuja.

 

“Eight of our members were indeed k!lled by kidnappers, but a statement will be officially released later today in Abuja. The incident happened on Friday, September 5, 2025, at about 10 pm, when the officers were escorting five Chinese expatriates after a routine patrol at the company’s entrance,” the top official added.

 

Meanwhile, the Commandant, Agun Gbenga, has visited the scene of the crime and the hospital where the injured are being treated.

 

It was also gathered that joint security operations with sister agencies have commenced, combing the surrounding forest in pursuit of the perpetrators

 

The management of BUA confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday, September 7.

 

BUA is deeply saddened by the attack of Friday, September 5, 2025, in which eight operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and a civilian driver lost their lives near our Okpella facility in Edo State,” the statement read.

 

“We extend heartfelt condolences to the families of the fallen, the NSCDC, and the Government of Nigeria, and wish the injured officers a swift recovery. We note with grave concern the abduction of a foreign expatriate, even as four others were rescued unharmed. 

 

“We are working closely with security agencies to ensure the safe return of the abducted and to bring the perpetrators of this heinous act to justice. The safety of our people, partners, and host communities remains paramount. This tragedy is a painful reminder of the sacrifices borne daily by our security personnel. Their courage will never be forgotten.”
