A Michigan grandfather checking in on his 3-year-old granddaughter was allegedly stabbed to de@th with a screwdriver by her nanny, who later chased the child’s uncle down the street, n@ked and covered in blood.
Samantha Booth, 35, was arrested Friday, Oct. 24, in Royal Oak, near Detroit, after fleeing from police responding to the chaotic scene.
When the nanny stopped responding to calls and texts from the child’s parents, who were out of town, they asked the girl’s grandfather, David Ong, 83, to see if everything was OK, the Telegraph reported.
But when Ong also stopped responding, the toddler’s mother asked her brother-in-law to go to the home. When the brother-in-law got there, he found Booth covered in blood in the basement near the 3-year-old and Ong’s body, which had head wounds, according to the outlet.
Booth, who appeared to be “in a manic state”, then allegedly lunged at the brother-in-law. He “fended off multiple attacks” before grabbing his niece and fleeing.
The disturbed nanny followed them, wielding a screwdriver and screaming down the street.
“She was actually chasing him down the street as he was screaming for help, and some neighbors heard it and ushered him and the child inside,” said Royal Oak Police Chief Michael Moore.
“She attacked the victim repeatedly with a screwdriver,” he added. “An absolutely horrific crime.”
Booth was allegedly still prowling about the area when officers arrived. She stripped n@ked and tried to run when they confronted her, KTVU reported.
She was quickly apprehended, and officers allegedly found psychedelic mushrooms and marijuana in her bag, though police have not said whether or not she was high at the time.
Booth allegedly confessed to murd£ring the grandfather, telling officers from the back of the squad car, “I f**ked him the f**k up. And yes, I did it. God, it was too easy.”
She had been babysitting for the family for at least two years before the incident, and had no criminal record before Friday’s arrest.
“My father, David Ong, di£d tragically on Friday evening while protecting his cherished three-year-old granddaughter,” the girl’s aunt wrote on social media.
“The loss is immeasurable. Anyone who knows my dad knows that he is a gentle giant — a man of incredible kindness, love and faith. I’ve often said he is simply the best man I know.”
Booth was charged with first-degree murd£r and second-degree child abuse, as the gruesome slaying occurred before the toddler, and ordered to be held without bond.
The child and her uncle suffered minor injuries during the incident.
