Governor Zulum bans sale of fuel in Bama LGA over resurgence of Boko Haram

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has ordered an immediate ban on the sale of petrol across Bama Local Government Area, including Bama town and the border community of Banki, in a move aimed at strengthening counter-insurgency operations in the region.

The directive followed consultations with security agencies and is part of the state government’s broader strategy to curb the activities of insurgents in the northeastern part of the state, which borders Chad and Cameroon.

“I have directed the immediate ban on the sale of petrol in Bama town, Banki, and other parts of Bama Local Government Area with immediate effect,” Zulum stated.

The announcement was made through the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Dauda Iliya, in a statement issued on Saturday. The statement emphasized that the measure was a security necessity to support ongoing military efforts in the region.

Zulum issued a stern warning against defiance of the directive. “Let me make it clear—there will be no sacred cows in the enforcement of this ban. Security agencies have been given strict orders to clamp down on any filling station or individual contravening this directive. Anyone found culpable will be dealt with accordingly,” he warned.

Reaffirming his administration’s resolve to restore peace and stability, the governor appealed to residents to support the government’s efforts and cooperate fully with security authorities.

Governor Zulum has consistently maintained a hardline stance against insurgent groups operating within the state, often taking direct actions to support military and humanitarian operations in the most affected communities.
