Former Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore has been detained by police in Michigan and is being investigated for potential charges, according to the Saline Police Department.Police in Saline, Mich., helped locate and detain Moore on Wednesday night and handed him over to Pittsfield Township authorities for investigation into potential charges, Saline Police told ESPN in a statement. He was detained hours after his shocking firing by the university, as it discovered credible evidence that the football coach had been involved in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. Court records showed that Moore was booked into Washtenaw County Jail at 8:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday night. No charges were listed. The Pittsfield Township Police Department did not name Moore in a statement released later Wednesday evening, but revealed it was investigating an alleged assault that occurred on Wednesday at 4:10 p.m. local time. A suspect in this case was taken into custody. This incident does not appear to be random in nature, and there appears to be no ongoing threat to the community, the statement said. The suspect was lodged at the Washtenaw County Jail pending review of charges by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor. At this time, the investigation is ongoing. The school made the official announcement shortly before 5 p.m. that Moore had been terminated, with cause, effective immediately after Michigan had begun looking into him. Biff Poggi was named interim head coach by Michigan in Moores place. Following a University investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member, Michigan said in a statement. This conduct constitutes a clear violation of university policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior.
