Konga’s former CEO, Nick Imudia, one of Nigeria’s top e-commerce companies, tragically committed suicide in the night of June 25. The CEO of D.light, the initial enterprise in the area of the distribution and financing of renewable solar energy systems, Imudia, is the one that leapt from his Lekki, Lagos balcony.
Before making the fatal jump, the Imudia sent a message to and brother instructing on how to share the money in case of his death. He also had long meaningful conversation with his young daughter born from a previous relationship, ensuring her that he would always be with her and that she would find him if she looked to the sky.
Imudia’s passing has been a deep shock not only for his immediate family but also for his friends and fellow workers; they are left to deal with not understanding the reasons that led Imudia to commit suicide.
Imudia, a local from the government area of Ika South in Delta State, had been fair from his side once, got married, and was the father of his girl, but the relationship ended as they were very different and they never came to terms with it. Afterward, he married a Caucasian woman, and everybody believed he was genuinely happy.
Imudia completed a very impressive career as he held many significant management and operational roles including Regional Director at TCL/Alcatel and General Manager/Managing Director for West and Central Africa at Microsoft Device and Services, where he started his time at Konga.
His tragic abrupt death has created a deep vacuum in the lives of the numerous ones that were touched by his professional achievements, his resilience, and his presence that meant so much to them.
This very sorrowful event turns out to be less of an embarrassment and more of a stark reality for the people who seem to have everything. The gravity of such problems with mental health and the impossibility of a person to deal with the issue alone becomes more evident on the example of our leaders whose duties are to keep lub going.
Imudia’s full life should make people defy apathy and by the same token, seek for a mental health checkup, as well as, opt for their pyrokinesis on the way to a new job.
