Five people were injured on Thursday, January 15, following a suspected improvised explosive device explosion along the Takalafiya–Gadar Zaima Road in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 11:30 a.m. when a motorcycle carrying five passengers ran over an explosive device believed to have been planted by armed bandits targeting security patrols in the area.
Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency security expert in the Lake Chad region, disclosed the incident in a post on X.
According to the account, the device detonated on contact, triggering a loud explosion that destroyed the motorcycle and left all five occupants seriously injured.
Security operatives subsequently cordoned off the road and warned residents to avoid the area while safety checks were carried out.
The injured victims were evacuated to the General Hospital in Gummi for medical treatment.
Movement along the Takalafiya–Gadar Zaima axis remains restricted as security agencies continue to monitor the situation and clear the area of potential threats.
