“This is the final independent confirmation that the time Madalina was last seen exists for the investigators. At 4:59 p.m. on 11-21-22, she alighted from the bus. To determine the precise time period around her disappearance, we are looking for further witnesses in addition to family members, according to the FBI Charlotte.
Police detained the child’s mother, Diana Cojocari, 35, and stepfather, Christopher Palmiter, 60, on Monday and accused them of failing to disclose the child’s absence, Newsypeople earlier reported.
The search was eventually joined by the FBI and the North Carolina State Bureau of Inquiry. Last Monday, Cornelius police opened an investigation into the missing.
According to an arrest request, Cojocari reported her daughter missing three weeks later “begrudgingly” because she “was scared it would harm her relationship with her husband,” Fox 8 adds. The night Madalina vanished, the two allegedly got into a fight, and Palmiter left to pick up some belongings for his relatives in Michigan. On November 26, he went back to his house.
The night of November 23, Cojocari claimed she spotted her daughter gone from her bedroom, but she didn’t alert Palmiter until he got back from Michigan. Despite failing to immediately notify the authorities, Palmiter allegedly informed detectives that he last saw Madalina a week before leaving for Michigan.
After school officials visited the residence on December 12 to conduct a truancy check, Madalina was reported missing. After meeting with the school on December 15, Cojacari filed a report of missing persons.
