The family of one of the victims abducted during the recent bandit attack on a Benue Links bus in Okpokwu Local Government Area has appealed to the government to intervene, as kidnappers are now demanding N350 million for the release of the hostages.
The incident occurred last week when armed men suspected to be bandits hijacked the state-owned commercial bus travelling through Okpokwu, forcing the passengers into the bush at gunpoint.
Mr. Terna Agbecha, whose cousin, Hembadoon Akume, was among the abducted passengers, said that the kidnappers have established contact with the family and issued the hefty ransom demand.
“My cousin Hembadoon Akume is among those taken. We are asking the government to intervene. They called and asked for N350 million. Our elder sister has paid N500,000, but they refused to set her free,” Agbecha lamented.
