English footballer Eric Dier is set to leave Bayern Munich at the conclusion of the 2024–25 season when his contract expires, the German club confirmed on Friday, May 2.
The 31-year-old centre-back, who joined Bayern on loan from Tottenham Hotspur in January 2024 before making the move permanent in the summer, has informed the club he will not be extending his deal.
“We’ve had talks with Eric about a potential contract extension,” Bayern’s sporting director Christoph Freund said. “He told us that he won’t extend his time with Bayern and that he’ll leave the club at the end of the season.”
While Dier’s current deal runs until June 30, Bayern Munich are reportedly exploring the possibility of a short-term extension to include him in the squad for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, which takes place in the United States from June 14 to July 13.
Initially signed to provide depth in central defence, Dier quickly established himself as a starter alongside Matthijs de Ligt under former manager Thomas Tuchel. Although his appearances have been more limited under current head coach Vincent Kompany, Dier has remained a key squad member, stepping in effectively during injury spells for defenders Kim Min-jae and Dayot Upamecano.
Freund praised the England international for his contributions. “We’ve had a great time with Eric and I hope he’ll crown his time with Bayern with a title,” he said.
According to reports in French and German media, Dier is expected to sign a long-term contract with Ligue 1 side AS Monaco, potentially running through to the summer of 2027. Dier, who has been capped 49 times by England, will be looking to revitalise his career with regular first-team football as he enters the next chapter.
