Edo Commissioner for Information claims Peter Obi?s visit caused a stampede that led to death of three persons but fails to name the exact location of the stampede

The Edo State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Paul Ohonbamu, says the recent visit of the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to the state led to a stampede that caused the de@th of three people.

Ohonbamu made the claim in an interview with Channels TV today July 21. He however failed to mention the area in the state where the stampede reportedly occurred.

Ohonbamu said

‘’Yes, intelligent report brought it out, Two d!ed in the hospital. They rushed them actually. Let me tell you, many of these things, we do not alarm the public with some of these things. You know that anywhere Obi enters, there is this euphoria. People do not know him deeply, they just see him and then say ‘This is Obi, the messiah they want and they rush after him. That euphoria, the ecstasy can cause stampede but it did not reflect in votes’’

When asked if it was at the school of nursing Obi visited when he went to the state the said stampede occurred,  the Commissioner said

‘’Apart from going to that school, he went to other places. He cannot just go to that school and go like that. ‘’

When asked when the stampede happened, he said July 7.

When asked where exactly did the stampede occurred, he said

‘’In Benin, they took some of them to the hospital. I did not folow Peter Obi to where he followed but I know that is where it happened. I was supposed to address the press on it but they said do not panic the public. Peter Obi knows all this.”
