Dramatic police video shows the parents of 7-month-old Emmanuel Haro being hauled from their California home in handcuffs after authorities revealed their claim of a kidnapping was a lie — and the infant is now believed to be dead.
Jake and Rebecca Haro were arrested early Friday at their Cabazon residence by a large law enforcement team and charged with murder, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department announced. The arrests came just over a week after the couple told police their baby was snatched outside a sporting goods store in Yucaipa on Aug. 14.
“Based on the evidence, investigators determined a kidnapping in Yucaipa did not occur. It is believed Emmanuel is deceased, and the search to recover his remains is ongoing,” the department said in a statement.

Footage released by police shows officers storming the home with armored vehicles and patrol cars before escorting the couple out separately.
Rebecca, 41, dressed in black shorts and a white tank top, appeared disheveled and emotionless as she was led to a cruiser. Her 32-year-old husband, Jake, barefoot and wearing striped shorts, followed moments later.

Authorities say inconsistencies in Rebecca’s account of the alleged abduction quickly raised suspicion, and the couple stopped cooperating with investigators days before their arrest.

#EmmanuelHaro and his sister 💔
She only has 3 % of her brain function left.
It is unbelievable that this guy was allowed to walk free and do this again to a child. It should have been ”attempted murder”! pic.twitter.com/mF4hAixYZM— Lilly inLondon (@Lillyin_London) August 20, 2025

Rebecca initially claimed she had been assaulted by a stranger outside the store while changing Emmanuel’s diaper, waking up to find her son gone. The story prompted a frantic search and national attention, with the Haros pleading publicly for their baby’s safe return.
Investigators, however, uncovered digital evidence and surveillance footage that contradicted the parents’ statements. Multiple search warrants were executed at their home during the probe.
The couple remains in custody at Riverside County Jail without bail. Sheriff Shannon Dicus called the case “tragic” and vowed justice for Emmanuel.
“The circumstances surrounding this investigation are tragic, and we will continue to search for Emmanuel,” Dicus said. “I trust our justice system will hold the parents accountable.”
Police say no other suspects are involved.
