Donald Trump claims London Mayor, Sadiq Khan is seeking to implement Sharia law

US President Donald Trump, speaking before the United Nations General Assembly, falsely claimed that London’s Muslim mayor intends to implement Sharia law, as part of a long-winded speech on migration and Europe’s perceived decline.

Trump began by criticizing London’s leadership, calling the mayor “terrible” multiple times. “I look at London, where you have a terrible mayor, terrible, terrible mayor, and it’s been so changed,” he said. He then added, “Now they want to go to Sharia law.”

The remarks were part of a broader argument on what he described as the destructive effects of migration in Europe. “Europe has been invaded by a force of illegal aliens like nobody has ever seen before,” Trump said. He further warned that unless decisive action is taken, “Both the immigration and their suicidal energy ideas will be the death of Western Europe if something is not done immediately.”

Trump also accused the UN of supporting these trends, claiming the organization was “funding an assault on Western countries and their borders.” He repeatedly emphasized that Europe was in “serious trouble,” and warned that its current trajectory could not be sustained.

In his address, Trump returned to his claims about London, insisting that the city had undergone dramatic changes under the mayor. “I look at London, where you have a terrible mayor, terrible, terrible mayor, and it’s been changed, it’s been so changed. Now they want to go to Sharia law. But you are in a different country, you can’t do that,” he said, reinforcing his narrative that European governance and immigration policies were endangering the continent.

Experts have widely debunked the claim that London’s mayor is seeking to implement Sharia law. While the mayor is Muslim, UK law remains secular, and Sharia law in the country is only applicable in very limited civil matters through voluntary arbitration tribunals, which cannot override national legislation.
