David Miscavige, the head of the Church of Scientology, is reportedly missing after four months of futile attempts to serve him with a federal trafficking lawsuit in Florida and California.
According to The Tampa Bay Times, servers attempted to deliver court-related documents to Miscavige, 62, on 27 separate occasions at locations in Clearwater, Florida, and California. According to court documents, the guards allegedly refused to take the papers, said they didn’t know where Miscavige lived or worked, and dodged subsequent inquiries.
Three former Scientology Church members have accused Miscavige and other leaders of forcing them to labor as adults for little to no compensation after trafficking them as children. One of the claimants, according to Fox News, said she was subjected to recurrent sexual abuse while attending the church.
The Tampa Bay Times reports that five additional co-defendants have already been served in this lawsuit.
A federal judge mandated that a summons be sent to Miscavige through the Florida Secretary of State in September. Following that, attorneys for a number of the plaintiffs served notice on 10 Scientology facilities in Florida and California. According to The Tampa Bay Times, the certified mail was ultimately denied at the delivery place, lost in transit, or returned to the sender with unsigned return slips.
The lawyers unsuccessfully attempted to track down Miscavige by using a private detective, the news source claims.
Whether Miscavige was properly served and is in default as a result of avoiding process servers and concealing his location will be decided at a hearing in Tampa on January 20. Miscavige’s attorneys have claimed that since the church president does not reside in Florida, he has not received service of process.
Is David Miscavige wife missing?
The wife of David Miscavige, the founder of Scientology, Michele Miscavige, hasn’t been spotted in more than ten years. There are many reasons to be concerned.
The so-called “First Lady of Scientology” and spouse of the movement’s founder, David Miscavige, Michele “Shelly” Miscavige, attended her father’s funeral in August 2007. Then, for some reason, she vanished.
What specifically occurred to Shelly Miscavige is still a mystery. Despite widespread reports that she was transferred to one of the group’s top-secret camps, Scientology spokespeople contend that their leader’s wife is simply avoiding the spotlight. Additionally, the Los Angeles Police, who had been contacted to inquire into her disappearance, came to the same conclusion.
Nevertheless, Shelly Miscavige’s persistent absence has generated more concerns. An investigation into her life, her marriage to David Miscavige, and the inner workings of Scientology itself have been sparked by her disappearance.
