Court suspends ADC congresses in Adamawa

A High Court in Adamawa State has ordered the suspension of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) congresses scheduled for Thursday, April 9, 2026.

The state, local government, and ward congresses of the ADC in Adamawa State were supposed to take place today.

The suspension order was issued by Justice Ahmed Isah of High Court No. 6, Yola, pending the determination of a case before the court.

The matter has been adjourned to April 15, 2026, for continuation of hearing.

The case was instituted by the state chairman of the party, Yohanna Shehu, who is protesting alleged exclusion from the congress planning process.

The planning is coordinated by a controversial leadership organ, the state transition committee of the ADC, led by Sadiq Dasin.

Commenting on the case after the court suspended the congresses, Yohanna Shehu said he sued the Sadiq Dasin committee because the way the committee went about the planning of the congresses was undemocratic.

“How can you plan the congresses of a party without due consultation with the state chairman?” Yohanna said in a conversation with The Nation.
