Being a divorcee has been a blessing to me - Nigerian woman says five years after her marriage ended

A Nigerian woman, Hussaina Sufyan Ahmed, has said that a failed marriage is not the end of the world but the beginning of a new chapter, a chance for personal and professional growth.

Hussaina stated this in a Facebook post on Sunday, August 17, 2025, as she marks almost five years post divorce.

According to the mother of one, being a divorcee has been a blessing to her because she got a lot of things she’s always desired.

Hussaina said she didn’t only achieve her personal goals but also fulfilled her mother’s best wish.

“Since I got divorced in 2020, one of my wishes was to get whatever my parents desired for them, not just this but to also be able do the appropriate responsibilities for my daughter since it was a journey I travelled alone,” she wrote.

Fast forward to 3 years of being a divorcee, I got a lot of things and one of the most outstanding was granting my mother’s best wish, a wish that is another year old today and still makes her pray for me continuously irrespective of what she is doing.

“4 years as a divorcee, I’m doing more of her second wish and still on it while she shows utmost gratitude and happiness whenever she sees or hears my name.

“Notice I didn’t mention my dad? Well, he is always of the opinion that I could have come as a son because I act and do things a lot of women don’t think to do for family sake. (I always reply this because I am a woman, a strong one at that an not ever a man)

“This is almost 5 years of being a divorcee and all I can say is being a divorcee has been a blessing to me, there are times I have wasted my time in getting close to people who didn’t deserve it but what is most important now is the fact that they are aware and are either admiring from afar or gossiping from afar and in any choice they make, I don’t care. (Males and Females).

“Dear divorcee, that marriage you left won’t be the end of you, wait and be patient with yourself and work towards achieving your goals. Some will use you but then don’t forget to also outsmart because at the end of the day, every human is the angel in their own story.”
