In relation to the 8-year-old Boy Stabbed by his Grandfather on New Year’s Day in North Richland Hills, more information is coming to light.
North Richland Hills police said they were summoned to the home just before 8 a.m. on Sunday and discovered the kid dead.
Richland Hills police officer Sheena McEachran stated that the 911 call that initiated this incident originally came from a resident of the residence. “When authorities arrived, they went inside the house and discovered what we now know to be a dead 8-year-old boy. A weapon, one with an edged blade, was used in the incident, and it has since been found.
62-Year-old Phillip Hughes Charged
Phillip Hughes, 62, the victim’s grandpa, was arrested and charged with capital murder. According to a family relative, the boy and his parents were temporarily staying with Hughes in a home on Labadie Drive when the crime occurred.
The victim’s family, according to the child’s great-grandmother Linda Hubbard, “were staying here with the grandfather until they could get him another place to live.” They kind of avoided him, I guess. Not much can I say about that?
Police stated that although their investigation is ongoing, they have no reason to believe that anyone was responsible for the stabbing. The victim’s identity has not yet been made public, and the motivation is still unknown.
The victim, according to Hubbard, was “a gorgeous little child” who enjoyed cooking.
He enjoyed cooking, which made us happy. My daughter had an apron and chef’s cap made for him, which he carried with him so he could assist in the kitchen, she added.
Hughes is being held at the North Richland Hills Police Department.
