A 24-year-old man Dead in Alabama on New Year Eve on Dauphin Street approximately 45 minutes before the city’s “MoonPie” drop to mark the start of 2023, according to Mobile police.
As thousands of partygoers gathered in Mobile, Alabama, to ring in the new year, one person was shot to death and nine others were injured.
According to the police, the injured people were transferred to surrounding hospitals and their ages ranged from 17 to 57. They sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious. According to the authorities, the gunshots also struck two shops.
While the New Year’s celebrations went on, police taped off the area around the crime scene, which was across Bienville Square from MoonPie Over Mobile’s main stage.
The fatal victim and the mystery shooter or shooters “may have known one another,” Mobile Police Chief Paul Prine told WKRG.
The fact that this was not just a senseless shooting in which someone lost their life, he continued, “I think that would give some comfort to all of us downtown.”
