- VeryDarkMan, a controversial social media critic, was briefly detained by police on suspicion of defamation.
- He was released after contacting powerful individuals and lawyers, including Deji Adeyanju, who assisted in securing his release.
- VeryDarkMan stressed that defamation is a punishable offense but reaffirmed his dedication to speaking up for the weak and innocent.
- He expressed dissatisfaction with many Nigerians’ silence in the face of fraudulent acts by influential individuals.
Social media critic Martins Otse, also known as Verydarkman, has been released from police custody following a turbulent period.
During an interview, Verydarkman recounted the events leading to his recent arrest. He described how police officers raided his home on Sunday and arrested him on allegations of defaming a man accused of scamming a Nigerian abroad.
While at the police station, Verydarkman provided a detailed statement and evidence to support his accusations against the alleged fraudster.
Despite initial attempts by the police to have him detained, Verydarkman’s legal team, which included prominent figures, managed to secure his release on bail.
Expressing frustration, Verydarkman criticized what he perceives as the authorities’ abuse of power and collaboration with influential individuals to silence critics. He argued that rather than arresting him, the police should have focused on apprehending the alleged scammer.
This is not the first time Verydarkman has faced legal issues. Earlier this year, he was arrested following a petition by actress Tonto Dikeh regarding comments he made about the late singer Mohbad’s case.
Undeterred, Verydarkman pledged to continue using his platform to uncover wrongdoing and hold the powerful accountable, despite the personal risks involved.
He remains a divisive figure, lauded by some for his bold activism but condemned by others for his combative approach.
