- NMS Labs, a US medical facility in Pennsylvania, has refuted claims that they performed toxicology tests to determine Mohbad’s cause of death.
- Esther Dede, the Client Services Associate at NMS Labs’ Forensics Division, stated they did not have a case for Mohbad.
- This denial contradicts the earlier claim made by the Lagos State Government that Mohbad’s body was flown to the US medical facility to determine the cause of his death.
Newsypeople- The management of the National Medical Services Laboratories (NMS Labs) in Pennsylvania, United States of America, has denied conducting a toxicology test on the late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad.
This denial was in response to claims made by the Lagos State Government that Mohbad’s body was flown to the US laboratory to determine the cause of his death.
The denial was issued after inquiries were made by The Punch, a Nigerian newspaper, which had reported that the Lagos State Government claimed that a toxicology test was conducted at NMS Labs to determine Mohbad’s cause of death.
However, in response to these inquiries, Esther Dede, a Client Services Associate in the Forensics Division of NMS Labs, stated that the laboratory did not have a case for Mohbad and that they would need authorization from the submitting agency to maintain compliance with HIPAA privacy regulations.
This denial adds to the ongoing controversy surrounding Mohbad’s death, which has been shrouded in mystery. Earlier, a pathologist had informed the Coroner’s Court that an autopsy could not determine Mohbad’s cause of death due to the advanced decomposition of his body.

The state attorney, Omotoso Akinde, had also stated that no toxicology test was conducted, which is typically part of an autopsy.
The Lagos State Government had claimed that Mohbad’s body was flown to the US laboratory to determine the cause of his death, citing the lack of a suitable facility in Nigeria. This claim was made by the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who stated that the state lost its only forensic facility during the #EndSARS protests in 2020.
The denial by NMS Labs raises further questions about the handling and communication of forensic testing in the case.
The Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotoso, had earlier stated that the state DNA and Forensic Centre handles such cases with the help of affiliate centers in the US, including NMS Labs in Pennsylvania. However, NMS Labs has now denied conducting any toxicology test on Mohbad’s body.
The controversy surrounding Mohbad’s death has sparked widespread public concern and outrage, with many calling for a thorough and transparent investigation into the circumstances of his death. The denial by NMS Labs adds another layer of complexity to the case, highlighting the need for clear communication and transparency in forensic testing and investigations.
