Bright Okpocha, popularly known as Basketmouth, has urged couples to exercise discretion when facing challenges in their marriages.
He cautioned against using social media to expose a partner’s weaknesses, saying, “We can do better as a society.” He noted that such behaviour can harm both the individuals involved and society at large.
Reflecting on his own experience, Basketmouth revealed that despite facing marital difficulties that eventually led to divorce, he never aired his personal issues online.
“I also had my own marital issues, but I never came online to talk about it,” he explained, stressing that maintaining privacy helps preserve dignity and respect for both parties.
Impact on Children and Families
The comedian further argued that society can benefit when couples handle conflicts quietly, rather than turning personal struggles into public spectacles.
“Parents should consider their children when calling each other out online because the children will be shamed by their friends who have access to social media,” he added.
He warned that airing grievances online can lead to children being shamed or bullied by peers who have access to social media.
Parents, he said, should always consider the emotional well-being of their children before sharing private conflicts publicly.
Reference to Regina Daniels and Ned Nwoko
The comedian specifically addressed the ongoing scrutiny surrounding Regina Daniels and Senator Ned Nwoko’s relationship.
He urged Nwoko to handle the situation with maturity and responsibility, emphasising the importance of adult conduct in resolving personal matters.
