Stern Accepts Seinfeld’s Apology Over ‘Weird’ Remarks

Howard Stern accepted the apology by Jerry Seinfeld for the comments he had made during his appearance on the David Spade and Dana Carvey podcast. The remarks he had made had seemed to imply that Stern, the “king of all media,” had been “outflanked” by comedy podcasts by other hosts like Carvey and Spade, who were funnier than Stern.

This meant there was a public response in which Stern first found the remarks weird, given the friendship between him and Seinfeld.

As soon as he heard the comments, Stern’s immediate reaction was one of surprise, given the close relations he had with Seinfeld, even with their wives being good friends.

Jerry Seinfeld had immediately called him to apologize, expressing regret for the fact that his words might have been misinterpreted. Still, Stern acted pretty cool about the whole issue, stating that he often feels sorry for many things he says while on the air and, therefore, understood Seinfeld’s position.

He also emphasized that he thought that he was both an interviewer and a comedian and regardless of what he was, he appreciated Seinfeld’s apology but felt it was needless due to the nature of their job.

Seinfeld offered to publicly apologize on Stern’s show, but Stern said no because he wanted to keep the matter private and the issue was not that big of a deal. Through this, the two figures show their mutual respect and understanding after the brief controversy sparked by Seinfeld’s comments.

Howard Stern Net Worth In Details

Howard Stern is an American radio and television personality with an estimated net worth of approximately $650 million. His rise to financial success began back in the late 70s and early 80s when he started to host radio—rock stations—before moving on to hosting a radio talk show. In the beginning, the show struggled to attract a stable audience, which forced Stern to change stations frequently.

However, he eventually gained significant recognition and many awards after his honesty on air finally caught on with listeners. He gained a large following after he signed with WNBC based in Washington, D.C., due to his controversial content and the conflicts he often had with management, which propelled him into the national spotlight and made his show the highest-rated program on WNBC until he was fired.

Stern’s popularity really took off during the mid-80s through the early 2000s when his radio program became the most listened-to morning radio show in the U.S. And he used that as the launching pad for numerous other successful ventures, which included two late-night talk shows, bestseller books, pay-per-view programs, and albums. He even attempted a career in politics, running for the New York Governorship. National syndication of “The Howard Stern Show” on terrestrial radio from 1986 to 2005 set the stage for Stern to move to Sirius Satellite Radio in a record five-year, $500 million deal that began in 2006. From Sirius alone, he has made over $1 billion, and that does not take into account the hundreds of millions he made from radio before.

In December 2020, Stern extended his contract with Sirius for another five years. The contract provided that he will take home $120 million each year, amounting to $600 million for the entire period of the contract. However, much of the amount goes to cover production costs that include salary for key staff, such as Robin Quivers and Gary Dell-Abate, who take home an estimated combined sum of $14 million each year. Subtracting other costs of production and agent and tax deductions, Stern’s personal annual income from the contracts amounts to an estimated $40 million, equivalent to about $333,333 per show.

On the other hand, Stern has also invested deeply in real estate, owning more than $100 million worth of properties. These include a luxurious Manhattan penthouse and a sumptuous mansion in the Hamptons, bought for $20 million, while his estate in Palm Beach, Florida, was purchased for $52 million in 2013. The latter, in particular, is considered one of the most valuable in the area, estimated to fetch upwards of $300 million, considering that a sale of a neighboring estate set a new record.

Jerry Seinfeld Net Worth Explored

The net worth of Jerry Seinfeld has been a topic of interest, considering his immense contributions toward the entertainment industry, majorly through his iconic sitcom “Seinfeld.” His current net worth, as estimated for 2024, stands at approximately $900 million—an increase that is almost double from that estimated earlier.
This accumulation of wealth is primarily attributed to the syndication deals that “Seinfeld” has garnered since the last episode of the show in 1998. He has also made millions by selling the rights to Netflix for all nine seasons of the show and keeps making millions through his stand-up comedy tours.

He has quite a lot to thank the success of “Seinfeld” and the subsequent syndication deals for. Jerry Seinfeld and his co-writer, Larry David, retain 15 percent of the show’s back-end equity points, enabling them to amply benefit from the profit accrued to the show beyond their own salaries during the show. This deal led to Seinfeld earning several billions in syndication revenues, notably $500 million from Netflix in 2019 for digital rights.

Outside of “Seinfeld,” Seinfeld has had a long history of making money from stand-up comedy: He is estimated to have made around $100 million from his tours since the 1980s. Other investments, such as real estate, a collection of luxury cars, and more, add to his fortune. Still, Seinfeld’s representative denied the claims that he had joined the billionaire club, mentioning discrepancies in the methods to value his fortune and a lack of concrete proof to arrive at such a figure.
