Police dismiss viral ‘wanted’ poster of Iyabo Ojo as fake

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has debunked a viral “wanted” notice circulating online about Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo, describing it as fake and misleading.

The poster, which had the inscription “SPECIAL POLICE WANTED” alongside the actress’s photograph, went viral across social media platforms on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The fake notice had claimed that Iyabo Ojo was wanted by the Office of the Inspector General of Police Monitoring Unit, sparking mixed reactions among Nigerians.

In a statement released via its official Facebook page on Thursday morning, the Force clarified that it never issued such a notice and urged the public to disregard it.

The statement read:

“FAKE NEWS ALERT! This ‘WANTED’ poster of actress Iyabo Ojo did not emanate from the Nigeria Police Force. It is false, misleading & was never posted on any official NPF platform.”

The police further cautioned against the spread of misinformation, urging Nigerians to always verify news through the NPF’s official channels.

“Disregard & stop spreading fake news. Verify only from official NPF channels,” the statement added.
