Nollywood actress, Nkechi Sunday Blessing has opened up about one of the most disturbing challenges she faced at the beginning of her acting career.
Speaking on a recent episode of The Honest Bunch podcast, Nkechi revealed that the biggest problem she encountered as a newcomer was being handed outrageous and inappropriate scripts.

“Despite being a newcomer, I was given a script to sleep with a dog. I rejected it because I can’t start off my career like that. Imagine my first ever movie, I am sleeping with a dog. It doesn’t make sense.
It is going to be a tag because whatever you start with is what people would associate you with. I didn’t want to be renowned as someone who sleeps with dogs in movies,” she said.
She explained that accepting such a role would have created a permanent negative label that the public would never forget. Despite being new to Nollywood at the time, she refused to compromise her values.
“So, I rejected that script. But immediately I threw it down, so many girls grabbed it. I’m not sure any of them are in the limelight today,” Nkechi added.
The actress recalled that she was once given another script that required her to perform an extreme act on screen, which she also rejected immediately.
Her refusal was based on the belief that it would ruin her image before her career even started.
After leaving that production venue, Nkechi met veteran filmmaker Emeka Duru, who later gave her an opportunity to feature in the movie “Through The Fire by Imem Isong, a role she described as the real start of her Nollywood journey.

When they gave me the script for the movie that was suppose to be my first, it said I had to sleep with a dog. I rejected it and a lot of other ladies rushed the offer.
