Gospel minister Nathaniel Bassey has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late evangelist, Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, describing him as a spiritual father whose teachings transformed his walk with God.
In an emotional Instagram post, the “Imela” crooner said Ukpai’s influence on his ministry remains unforgettable, recalling how the revered preacher’s devotion to prayer and fasting inspired his own spiritual.
Bassey revealed that he had recently led an evening fast, a practice directly inspired by Ukpai’s lifestyle.
He wrote, “Oh! Dr Uma! Sometimes you wish some people would never die. Just a few days ago, I was inspired to lead multitudes in an evening fast. Something I learnt from you and did mention so.”
Legacy of power and faith
The singer further described the late cleric as “a man of great power, immense stature, and spiritual depth,” noting that Ukpai understood how to use praise and worship as a weapon in spiritual warfare.
According to him, Ukpai’s ministry was not only about miracles but about revealing the deeper workings of the spirit through faith and humility. “You called me SON. What a privilege. A man who knew the ways of the spirit,” he added.
Ukpai’s passing on October 6 at the age of 80 has left a deep void in Nigeria’s Christian community.
His death was confirmed by his family a week later, leading to an outpouring of tributes from church leaders, gospel singers, and faithful followers.
