Mr Eazi shares how he lost ₦19 million diesel deal at age 19

Singer and entrepreneur, Mr Eazi, has revealed how he once lost ₦19 million in a failed diesel business at just 19 years old.

According to him, he took money from his uncle, a doctor, and his wife in Nigeria to fund the venture, with the hope of supplying diesel to MTN.

Business dream gone wrong

He explained that his friend’s father, OC’s dad, trusted them enough to hand over his life savings worth about ₦19 million then, which equated to nearly £40,000 at the time. With the money in hand, they tried to secure diesel through agents at the Apapa port in Lagos.

Unfortunately, deregulation of fuel prices hit just as they made the purchase. Prices crashed, their money was trapped, and the MTN supply deal slipped through their fingers.

The harsh lesson

Mr Eazi recalled how painful it was to lose such a huge amount at a young age. Instead of making profits, they were forced to sell the diesel at a loss, with no chance of recovering the millions invested.

The failed venture left them in shock, but the experience, according to him, was a turning point. He said that although they had disappointed their investors, including his uncle and OC’s dad, the journey shaped his entrepreneurial mindset.

For Mr Eazi, the setback was a bitter but valuable lesson that eventually influenced his rise as a global music and business brand.
