Mohbad’s father alleges cover-up, says son was embalmed without consent

Mr Joseph Oladimeji Aloba, the father of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has opened up about the suspicious circumstances surrounding his son’s death, raising fresh concerns about the conduct of those who were around the artist in his final moments.

In a revealing interview with social media activist Vincent Otse Martins, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, Mr Aloba narrated a series of troubling events that unfolded on September 12, the day Mohbad died.

According to him, the day began with a call at about 4:30 p.m. from Mohbad’s mother informing him that their son had taken ill and was hospitalised. He quickly made arrangements to meet her so they could head to the hospital together.

However, upon reaching the hospital at Osapa London, the late singer’s uncle, Darosha, reportedly informed him that Mohbad was getting better and that there was no need for him to worry. Aloba said he was asked to return home by 7:00 p.m., a development that left him deeply unsettled.

“On the 12th of September, Iya Mohbad called me around 4:30 pm to tell me that my son is not well and is being hospitalized… When we got to Osapa London, Darosha Iya told me that my son is getting better now and I can go home around 7:00 pm,” he said.

But Mr Aloba said the abrupt change in narrative made him suspicious.

“I was already sensing my son was dead. Because of how they kept calling me that my son is not well and all of a sudden they said he was fine,” he explained.

His worst fears were confirmed when he later decided to accompany them to Mohbad’s house, only to meet a crowded entrance and initial resistance to his entry. Upon finally making his way upstairs to the room he and his son usually shared for private conversations, he said he noticed a blood-soaked duvet.

“I went upstairs because that is where I and Mohbad usually met. I noticed that the duvet was soaked in blood,” he said.

He also expressed concerns about how authorities handled the aftermath of the tragedy.

“We went to the police station. When I was giving my statement, someone came out and said they should not give me the police report because I did not report his death on time,” he said.

Further adding to the controversy, he alleged that Mohbad’s wife, Wunmi, had access to the doctor’s report but chose not to disclose its contents. Even more disturbing, he claimed that his son’s body was embalmed at home without his consent and that the morgue initially refused to accept the body that night.
