Newsypeople – Actress Halima Abubakar has filed a N30 billion lawsuit against Emeka Rollas, the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN). This action comes after the AGN announced her indefinite suspension from the guild last week.
According to the AGN, Halima’s suspension was due to her alleged responsibility for spreading defamatory information about AGN members, including rumors of extramarital affairs involving prominent figures in the entertainment industry.
However, Halima denies these allegations and claims she was never given the opportunity to defend herself before learning of her suspension through social media.
Through her lawyers, P.D Pius & Associates, Halima has responded strongly to the AGN President’s actions. They condemned Rollas’ decision, accusing him of intentionally damaging Halima’s reputation. The lawyers stated that the
“false narrative was intended to denigrate her, cast aspersions on her, and stir up social opprobrium.”
The letter sent by Halima’s legal team emphasizes that she has been dealing with health issues for years and that Emeka Rollas chose to spread negative information during her recovery period. This action, according to the lawyers, has caused Halima emotional and psychological distress and harmed her reputation among right-thinking members of society.
Halima’s lawyers have made several demands, including the immediate removal of the defamatory publication and an unreserved public apology on Rollas’ Instagram page within seven days. They also demand N30 billion in damages for reputational harm.
If these demands are not met within the specified timeframe, Halima’s lawyers state that they will proceed to court to seek legal redress. This development marks a significant escalation in the conflict between Halima Abubakar and the leadership of the Actors Guild of Nigeria.
