On Sunday 26th May 2024 at the age of 26 years, Charles Leclerc who drives for Ferrari, made history in Formula 1 by winning the Monaco Grand Prix thus becoming the first Monegasque driver to ever win his home race.

Leclerc who comes from Monte Carlo started on pole position and never looked back as he led from start to finish ahead of McLaren’s Oscar Piastri and his team mate Carlos Sainz in third. This win marked his first victory since July 2022 which was special for him on so many levels.

It was not an easy race for the young man either as he confessed during post-race interviews: “Emotionally it was a very difficult race already from 15 laps before the end I was just begging nothing happens anymore”. According to Charles, his thoughts were with his late father Hervé who passed on seven years ago without seeing him drive any car in Formula One.

Among all other street circuits around the world including Monaco, this is considered one of the most prestigious events of all time within the motorsport industry; thus achieving such outstanding results at this track has been historic for Leclerc himself too apart from being unique moment within sport history books globally speaking even though only people present during those days will ever know what happened then.

before the creation of the modern Formula 1 championship, the only driver from Monaco to have ever won was Louis Chiron in 1931 thus making Charles’s win significant not only for him but also for Ferrari because now they are only 24 points behind the red bull team at constructor standings after finishing second and third with Sainz taking third place too. Speaking about his feelings after such success Charles said “No words can explain that. It’s such a difficult race, I think the fact of starting twice in pole and not being able to do it makes it much better”.

The Grand Prix of Monaco had its share of thrills and spills. A major set of collisions was ignited by a disorderly beginning involving Sergio Perez’s Red Bull and both Haas vehicles, leading to a red flag and a substantial interruption. However, when the racing was resumed, Leclerc kept calm and fended off all comers to achieve a famous victory on the streets of his hometown.

The Monaco Grand Prix win by Charles Leclerc is evidence of his skills, determination, and emotional attachment to this event. This win will remain one of the most treasured moments of his career and establish him further as a future star in Formula 1.

Leclerc’s Monaco Curse Explained

Charles Leclerc, a Monegasque racecar driver for Ferrari, had always felt that he was under a curse when it came to the Monaco Grand Prix—his home track. However, on May 26th, 2024, he was finally able to break this perceived curse by taking his first victory there.

The “curse” of Leclerc at Monaco had started in his early career life in racing. He had two DNFs when he was driving for GP2 in this circuit. The bad luck continued into Formula 1; in 2021 he could not start from pole position due to an engine problem while a wrong strategy call cost him victory in 2022.

But even as these setbacks piled up against him, Charles claimed not to have any belief in such superstition surrounding himself and instead considered his failures as just disappointments. According to him, he found it more irritating not being able to win two times only which were the years 2021–he didn’t even start because the car broke down before entering the pitlane – and 2022–when we chose a wrong strategy.”

Throughout the weekend of the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix, Leclerc showed his speed and determination. He dominated all practice sessions, grabbed pole position and led from start to finish despite being stopped by a red flag caused following an opening lap collision between Sergio Perez, Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hulkenberg.

Despite the challenges posed by the race itself – including thinking about his father , who died last year and cried several times during the event because he missed him so much – Charles never lost concentration especially towards the end where he always thought that it was finally happening ,thinking of my old man as we always dreamed of winning together in Monaco.

The victory of Leclerc was a clear proof of his talent, perseverance and tenacity. He did not allow himself to be limited by what people called curse; instead he worked on maximizing the potential of the car, taking care of the tires and making right decisions during the race.

It was a special moment for him because he had never won at Monaco before, said Leclerc who added that it felt “unreal” and it was also very emotional. He admitted that so far his home race had always been an unhappy place for him where some believed there existed such thing as home race curse but today proved otherwise when Charles broke this spell becoming a winner in Monaco Grand Prix which will forever remain etched into history books.
