
Tragedy strikes as 22-year-old college basketball player, Deng Mayar loses his life in a drowning incident.
According to reports, the incident occurred while Deng Mayar was swimming with his friend, Sa Mafutaga, at Blackridge Reservoir in Herriman, Utah.
Mafutaga struggled to reach the shore with the help of bystanders and attempted to rescue Mayar, which proved abortive.
After an extensive search, authorities deployed a submersible robot to locate Mayar’s body, which was found at 11:00 p.m.
Prior to his death, Deng Mayar played for the University of North Dakota’s men’s basketball team, the Fighting Hawks, before transferring to the University of Nebraska Omaha to join the Omaha Mavericks in April 2025.
