The family of late veteran actor, Chief Kanran, has addressed growing speculations surrounding his sudden death, clarifying that he was not ill before the tragic incident.
The actor, who passed away just days before his 70th birthday and the celebration of his 55th anniversary on stage, reportedly slumped at home in the early hours of the morning.
Speaking in a phone interview with Alore TV, his niece confirmed his passing, stressing that contrary to rumours, he had not been sick, though he had a history of high blood pressure.
“Chief Kanran was not sick at all before he died even though he had high BP. In fact, he and his elder brother still spoke on the phone for some hours the night before the incident,” she explained.
According to her, the late actor was alone at home when he attempted to use the bathroom. He suddenly slumped and fell, but with no one around to assist him, he tragically passed away.
The bereaved niece further advised Nollywood practitioners and other filmmakers to prioritise rest, proper healthcare, and companionship, noting that the nature of the profession often places heavy demands on actors.
Chief Kanran, a respected figure in the Yoruba film industry, will be laid to rest in September. His passing has left the entertainment industry and his fans mourning the loss of a cultural icon whose career spanned over five decades.
