Popular Nigerian rapper, CDQ, has opened up on why he decided to leave a banking career in pursuit of his passion for music.
In a recent interview with the Echo Room, the ‘Nowo Soke’ hitmaker revealed that he initially became a banker to honour his late father’s dream.

However, he said the job left him unfulfilled, and he often found himself writing lyrics at work instead of focusing on his duties.
CDQ also recounted how music producer Masterkraft, who housed him at the time and even lent him suits for his banking job, was stunned when he announced he had resigned to fully commit to music.
He said …
“I quit my bank job. I couldn’t tell my mother or any family member then. I left the house and went to stay with Masterkraft in the studio. I told him banking isn’t my passion. I will probably just do it to make ends meet. But music is something that whether it gives me a return-back or not, I’m still happy doing it.”
The rapper revealed that he assured Masterkraft they should focus solely on music, predicting that they would experience a breakthrough within six months.
According to CDQ, their big break came even earlier than expected after landing a deal that enabled them to move from the ghetto to Lekki.
He rose to prominence in 2016 with the release of his hit track ‘Indomie’ featuring Masterkraft and Olamide. A remix of the song, which included Davido, further catapulted him into the spotlight.
