Bishop David Oyedepo, founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide (Winners Chapel), has expressed gratitude to God as construction of the 100,000-capacity Ark auditorium nears completion.
In a video shared online, the revered cleric was heard singing praises and rejoicing over the progress of the multi-billion-naira project which described it as a testament to divine grace and dedication.
The Ark, located in Ota, Ogun State, is set to become one of the largest church auditoriums in the world, designed to accommodate tens of thousands of worshippers and modern facilities for global evangelism.
Mixed reactions trail massive church project
The development has sparked widespread debate among Nigerians, with many taking to social media to express differing views on the necessity of such a massive church structure.
While some congratulated Bishop Oyedepo and members of the Living Faith Church for their dedication, others questioned the priorities of religious leaders amid Nigeria’s pressing economic challenges.
One user commented, “One offering and tithe for here go big pass Ebonyi State yearly allocation,” while another wrote, “They have the capacity to build big auditoriums but not industries. When it comes to productivity and accountability, all power suddenly disappears.”
Critics urge focus on industrial growth and social development
Several Nigerians argued that the resources used for the project could have been channelled into more productive ventures such as industries, schools, and healthcare facilities.
“Building this massive church is not what Nigeria needs at the moment. Those funds could be used to do greater things,” one concerned citizen noted.
Another critic added, “These religious leaders are part of our problem. Build institutions that are more profitable and productive, not more churches. How many churches do we need in one country?”
