Beware of those who chase your negativity for clout and money

Nigerian comedian and filmmaker Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, has stirred conversations on social media after sharing a warning about friendship and loyalty.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), AY cautioned his followers to watch out for friends who pursue negative news just to trend or make money. He wrote:

“Beware of anyone who calls you a friend yet rushes to jump on any negative news about you just to trend and gain monetization. Not everyone around you wishes you well. May God protect us from friends who are truly enemies in disguise. Their karma is never far.”

The post quickly drew reactions online. One X user accused AY of ignoring him years ago in Surulere and hinted at “nepotism,” claiming:

“If Alibaba treat you as you treat others, you for no dey where you dey today. Beware of yourself.”

AY immediately responded, dismissing the claims as false and explaining that he didn’t even have a PA in 2008 because he was still building his career.

He also emphasized that his relationship with Alibaba has never been a matter of controversy for anyone familiar with the Nigerian comedy scene.

AY’s post serves as a reminder that not everyone around you has your best interests at heart, especially those who thrive on drama, negativity, and personal gain.
