A woman who was shot near West Garfield Park on Sunday night was discovered dead inside a parked car in Maywood, according to Chicago Police.

According to CPD, a shooting occurred in the 800 block of South Kolmar Avenue around 11:26 p.m.

According to authorities, the victim was discovered inside the vehicle with a gunshot wound to the head. The victim has been identified as Alexis Wesley, 29, by the Medical Examiner’s Office.

She was declared dead when she arrived at Loyola Medical Center. According to the authorities, the person of interest is being questioned. There was no other information given.

“I heard around 6 to 10 rounds going off,” Wesley claimed, “but it may have been more.”

Hundreds of shot shells littered the street after the shooting on Wednesday about 10 a.m. in the Chicago teen’s East Garfield Park neighborhood near Ohio Street and St. Louis Avenue.

Four people were standing on the corner when a four-door vehicle pulled up, and two armed men leaped out and began shooting, according to witnesses.

Two men, considered to be in their twenties, were discovered dead, while a third man, maybe in his thirties, was shot in the chest and suffered serious injuries. All of the victims are African Americans.

According to authorities, the attack could have been the consequence of a gang struggle for narcotics territory.

“We know this region has a gang conflict and an outdoor drug market. “Violence has a long history in this region,” said Chicago Police Department Deputy Chief Al Nagode.

Officers stationed nearby heard the bullets, according to police. They rushed to the scene and were only able to stop a fleeing vehicle that was attempting to transport one of the shooting victims to the hospital.

While some residents are concerned about an increase in crime, others, such as Maurice Wesley, simply want to feel safe.

“I must carry out my responsibilities. I have to push through it. “Chicago life is what it is,” Wesley added.
