Malaysia landslide Kills 21 Campers: A tourist campground in Malaysia’s Selangor state was struck by a landslide, killing at least 21 people, including children. Online images from Malaysia’s rescue organizations showed groups of helmeted workers scrambling over difficult terrain and around fallen trees and other debris.
One camper, Teh Lynn Xuan, claimed that while she and her mother had lived, her brother had passed away and another brother had been injured and sent to the hospital.

She told the Malaysian daily Berita Harian, “We felt the tents become unstable and soil was falling around us.
I was able to crawl out and save myself, along with my mother. She claimed to have been camping with a sizable group of more than 40 people.
Leong Jim Meng, a different survivor, claimed to have heard an explosion prior to the ground shifting. That had awakened him and his family, who managed to escape their tents after being briefly trapped by rubble.
He claimed that it was “too dark to see what was going clearly.” Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim was supposed to visit the spot later on Friday after several other government ministers had already done so. He expressed his sorrow for the loss of life and prayed for more survivors.
