In the presence of her family, she passed away quietly in a hospital, according to a statement. After 28 years, McVie departed Fleetwood Mac in 1998, but he later came back.
In their statement, the family asked that everyone remember Christine as “an amazing human being, and acclaimed musician who was adored internationally.”
Christine Perfect, who later married Fleetwood Mac bassist John McVie, became Christine McVie. She joined the band at the beginning of the 1970s.
In the 1970s and 1980s, Fleetwood Mac rose to become one of the most well-known rock bands in the world.
With more than 40 million copies sold worldwide, their 1977 album Rumours, which was influenced by the splits of the McVies and the band’s other couple, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, became one of the best-selling albums of all time.
In 1998, the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame inducted eight band members, including McVie.
After the release of their live CD The Dance in the same year, she retired to Kent and announced she was leaving the band due to a fear of flying.
She returned to the group a year after rediscovering her love of performing after a one-time appearance with them at London’s O2 arena in 2013.

She revealed in 2017 that after leaving the band, she had developed agoraphobia. The band said of McVie in a statement: “We were very happy to have a life with her.
“Both individually and collectively, we genuinely loved Christine and are grateful for the wonderful memories we have. She is going to be sorely missed.
Stevie Nicks announced the death of her dearest friend, who she had known since the first day of 1975.
“Until late Saturday night, I was completely unaware that she was ill. I desperately wanted to be in London and travel there, but we were advised to wait.
So, ever since Saturday, only one song has been playing nonstop in my head. I’m singing it to her now because I believed I would get the chance to do so.
“I always knew that one day I would need these words… All I have left to do is that.
Mick Fleetwood, the other half of the band, wrote in a tweet. “This is a day when my dear sweet friend Christine McVie has taken to flight. And left us to listen with bated breath to the sounds of that songbird… reminding one and all that love is all around us to reach for and touch in this precious life that is gifted to us.
“Today, a piece of my heart has flown away… Everything about you, Christine McVie, will be missed.
