The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau has opened an investigation after a door separated from a Challenger 604 aircraft shortly after departure from Abuja.
The aircraft, registered T7-SEI and operated by Triton, was carrying six passengers and three crew members on a flight to Lagos. In a statement signed by Director-General Captain Alex Badeh Jr, the bureau said the aircraft departed Abuja at 16:12 UTC.
The crew declared a “mayday” emergency approximately three nautical miles into the flight, after climbing to 3,500 feet above sea level, when the door separated. The aircraft returned to Abuja and landed safely on Runway 22 at approximately 16:34 UTC.
The NSIB said the door had been recovered and secured at its wreckage hangar. The bureau said its investigation would establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, with further updates to be provided as work progresses.
