Why 2027 election should be between Tinubu, Obi without Atiku – Senator Shehu Sani

Why 2027 election should be between Tinubu, Obi without Atiku ? Senator Shehu Sani

Former federal lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, has said the 2027 presidential race should be between President Bola Tinubu, Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, candidate Peter Obi and other southern candidates.

According to the former lawmaker, northern candidates such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar should allow the South to complete its eight-year tenure before seeking the presidency.

In a post on X, Shehu Sani maintained that although it is not constitutional for the presidency to rotate between the North and South, “it is equitable”.

“The 2027 political contest should be between Tinubu, Peter Obi, Sowore, Makinde, Adebayo, Duke and other Southern Candidates. The South should complete its eight years.

“It’s not constitutional but it’s equitable. We should not bury our heads in the sand and deny the realities and complexities of our history,” he said.

He noted that upon completion of eight years by the South, the “North should have an unchallengeable right in 2031”.

Sani warned that “those who say there shouldn’t be respect for the principle of Rotation of power in 2027, should know that it WILL NOT be respected in 2031”.

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, has faced criticism over his decision to join the 2027 presidential race while the South is yet to complete an eight-year tenure.

However, the former Vice President has argued that there is no provision in the Nigerian Constitution barring anyone from contesting for the presidency at any time.
